Replace Missing Teeth

Come to Robert B. Hurley, DDS to get dental implants! Dental implants are an attractive, permanent solution to replace missing teeth. Patients often prefer implants over alternatives like bridges because they do not require other teeth to be altered in order to place the new tooth.

Inserting the Implant

The implant process is performed over a number of months, as each phase requires healing time. The first step in the process is to install the implant by placing a screw into the jawbone. This is done by making an incision in the gum so that the implant can be inserted. If necessary, multiple implants can be placed at once. Once the implants are placed, the gums are sutured.

The Healing Process

The implant takes approximately three to six months to heal. During this time, the jawbone forms around the implant(s) in a process called osseointegration. You may have temporary crowns installed during this healing time so that you can continue to eat, speak, and smile normally.

Attaching the Restoration

Once healed, an abutment is placed on the implant, which serves as the base for your new tooth. After this is placed, an impression of the abutment is taken and sent to a lab for crown creation. Once the restoration is completed, you'll return to the office to have it attached permanently.

Dental Implant FAQs

  • What is a dental implant?

A dental implant is a permanent new root to replace a missing tooth. It is a titanium screw that is placed into the jawbone with an abutment and crown placed on the implant to create a new, permanent tooth. The new tooth looks just like a natural tooth.

  • How are dental implants different than dentures?

Dentures are removable sets or partial sets of teeth that often feel bulky, can be difficult to get used to, and require special care.

Dental implants are a permanent replacement for missing teeth that can be cared for in the same manner and look just like natural teeth.

  • What are the benefits of dental implants?

Dental implants are identical to and feel just like natural teeth. They are also permanent and allow you to continue eating the foods you love without any fear of embarrassment.

  • How much do implants cost?

The price of dental implants varies based on your current oral health, how many implants you need, your insurance coverage, and more. Schedule a consultation with us to determine a price.

  • Do dental implants hurt?

No. You will receive a local anesthetic before the procedure to ensure you do not feel any pain. Address any fear or anxiety you have with your dentist and discuss possible sedation options.

  • How long do implants last?

Your implants could last a lifetime, if cared for properly. Regular dental visits and a proper oral hygiene routine are vital to the success of your implant.
