Do You Have Cracked or Broken Teeth?

Over time, teeth become weak and more susceptible to issues like decay, cracks, discoloration, and more. If you're dissatisfied with your smile and feel it isn't what it once was, crowns from Robert B. Hurley, DDS could be a good solution for you.

In order to prevent further damage, a crown may be necessary if your dentist notices that a tooth is decayed, cracked, or seems weakened. In these cases, a filling or bonding would not be sufficient.

Matching Your Crown to Your Teeth

Crowns come in a variety of materials, including porcelain, porcelain fused to metal, or gold. Porcelain is best if you're looking to maintain a more natural look and feel, as it can be matched to the shade of your natural teeth.

Installing the Crown

The crown installation process takes two to three visits to the dental office. On your first visit, your tooth will be reshaped by filing down the enamel in order for the crown to be placed over it. We'll administer a local anesthetic before the procedure to ensure you don't feel any discomfort.

After the tooth has been reshaped, we'll take a mold of your tooth and the teeth surrounding it. The mold will be sent to a dental lab for your new crown to be made to ensure a perfect fit and color match.

The dentist will fit you with a temporary crown until your permanent crown is ready to be placed.

Getting Your Permanent Crown

Crowns typically take about two to three weeks to be returned to the dental office. Once we receive your crown, you'll have another appointment to place and fit the permanent crown. We will use a local anesthetic to numb the area before placing the tooth using a cement to ensure the tooth sets in place.

Crowns are durable and usually last 10 to 15 years. You should care for your crown the same as you would for your other teeth with regular brushing and flossing and regular visits to the dentist for cleaning.
